*Cry Cry* Car come back from MOT

I feel gutted...only had the car 3 months and I thought I'd get it MOT'd as it's due in 2 weeks time to see what *might* fail.

MotorBodies Bilton Way Luton found the following wrong:

Rear(both) coil springs incomplete - Price to repair £215.03

Nearside front headlamp aim too low - Price to repair £16.92

ECU Upgrade *strongly recommended by Motorbodies* - Price £25.38

Please can anyone answer the following questions:

    a) Is the price correct? Seems unbelievably high for my liking...
    b) Doesn't Vauxhall do ECU upgrades for Free?
    c) How or where could I find these parts & install them myself??
    d) Does anyone recommend a dealership/garage in bedfordshire? I got nothing but attitude throughout my whole visit with these guys....

    My cars a Astra 1.8 Coupe....*still sobbing*

For the price of the rear springs you might as well get it lowered..

I don't know about charges for ECU upgrades or what they mean by "Rear(both) coil springs incomplete", but they've certainly got a bit of a cheek charging you 17 quid to adjust a headlight

Expect to pay FREE-£10 to adjust headlights, MOT station should/will do this for you.

As said above, get it lowered, new Eibachs £130ish for all four...

ECU upgrade, speak to 'friendly' Vauxhall main dealer and mention what MOT station said...

    Good luck second time round.

i got my headlights (both) adjusted for free. (at a main dealer to)

    takes all of about 2mins.

as for the springs its very easy to replace the rear springs your self.
a set of lowering springs would set you back around £120.

again not sure what the ECU upgrade is but by those prices i would guess that its not needed.

    That's a joke!

What do they mean by 'incomplete'? non-existant? missing part of spring/snapped?

"Rear(both) coil springs incomplete - Price to repair £215.03"

Sounds as if someone's lowered it already - with a hacksaw!!

Surely it isn't that big a job to replace the rear springs. Standard ones won't aren't that expensive are they? Might be worth trying it yourself.

Also, the headlamps, park about 1m from a garage door or wall, and turn on the lights, then adjust the nearside one to the same level as the offside one - job done and you save £16
