    Talking claiming an abandoned car

as above, has anyone ever done this? i looked into this with dvla today, dont want the car but it has private plate on it so it's that what i want. dvla says i have to send away V62 form and they contact last owner to see if they object, if not then apparently i can have it, tis in a state but as i say i dont want the car, just wondered if anyone has ever looked into this

if its been abandoned , it's been abandoned. not posting plate details, you have to check with authorities 1st

Yes but if you want to scrap the car but keep the plate itll cost Ł300+. Ive already tryed this with the dvla and they say
Even though its been scraped and broken it still needs to have a plate.
WTF whats the point in that.

Doesnt the car have to have a current MOT in order to transfer plates? My sis is restoring a horsebox in order to get the plate.

IIRC thats right, my dads boss has this old truck that hes has to get road worthy again with mot certificate, just so he can transfer the plate.

Car needs a mot and to have been taxed in the last 12months (subject to the dvla office some local offices let that go) only reason i know is as iv jsut bought a car for its plate once you transfer it to yours the other car will automatically have a new plate assigned

as this car already has a private plate on it then it reverts back to what they class as a non transferable plate, cant see why they would ask you to tax/mot a car you are going to scrap especially as the plate will be on a new car, maybe i'm just being a wee bit thick in this case. i will look into it further before i make a claim, if anyone has any further info then i would like to hear

If you wish to transfer a private reg the donor vehicle must have a current MOT or applicable test althogth i'm not sure about whether it needs road tax.

When you trandfer the plate the donor vehicle is given a random registration or the original if it is still avaliable
