    Urgent Help Needed!!!!

    Was driving home last night it must have been about 11.30 and all of a sudden I hear a rattling noise and loose all power , no breaks and the steering was heavy as ***** (SH*T)

    So I pulled over as soon as I could, tried to start the car but no joy, popped the hood and I could hear what sounded like running water, at first I thought it was the radiator leaking, so I grabbed my torch and got under the car, thatís when I saw it was actually leaking oil.

    To cut a long story short there is a massive hole in the bottom of the sump (hence why it was pissin oil)

    Iím hoping you guys can give me advice on how easy it is to change the sump

    Iíve got a 1.4 16v ecotec on an x plate

    Any help would be much appreciated

    If it's dropped it's oil - you may need more than just the sump replaced.
    The rattling does'nt sound good - I'd be inclined to let someone else do it.

    Disconnect the battery
    Remove the exhaust front pipe,
    slacken and remove bolts securing the sump flange to the transmission
    Remove rubber plugs from from transmission ends of the sump flange to gain access to the sump end bolts.
    Then undo all other bolts holding it on...

    refitting
    Apply sealant to oil pump and rear main bearing cap joints
    New sump gasket
    Apply thread lock to sump to cylinder block/oil pump bolts
    Refit all bolts in an even manner, not all one end then the next....
    refit exhaust
    refill with oil

    Go Drive.....

    is the plug visible from the front of the sump or is it the back???

    If the engine died, im suspecting complete engine failure - lack of oil = seize

    Although the lack of all power is a strange one?

    I know where there are 8 1.4 engines all out of recent Astras. As the same bloke wanted only £350 for a Omega 3.2 V6 I'd imagine he'd let a Z14 go for less than £200. Can't say for sure though, I'd have to ask him. Just in case you need one of course.
