    Pc boffins... graphics card opinions

Ok just intruiged. If you were going to buy a new graphics card.... at around £200 or so. would you buy Nvidia's 7900GT or not? It is without question a very good card. but factor in value for money, future compatibility etc. What would YOU do.

    comments / opinions / alternatives.

Nvidia or ATi... and you cant really go wrong

    A good review here: http://www.trustedreviews.com/articl...ge=6198&head=0

Check this thread out on this forum... they say the ATi 1900XT
    is a better card.

Personally Ive always used Nvidia myself and will normally look for the best Nvidia card I can afford. Ill always recommend them when asked.
I usually find them to be much more compatible with different games, and so much more stable.
All the ATI cards ive ever used have had random problems with certain games, yet Ive never had a problem with Nvidia.

Is it the 256MB or the 512MB you're looking at? 512MB should see you through many a year yet, correct me if im wrong but most games will run quite happily on 128MB at present let alone 512MB

Nvidia Geforce 7900GT is a good card. 512Mb version is the best option for future proofing, but the 256mb is more than capable for todays games and applications.

ATI are a good brand also, but to be honest, if you compare the 7900GT to the same level offering that ATI have, you wont notice any difference unless you benchmark it, where Nvidia will be better in some areas and ATI will be better in others.

I've just built a new system with one of these, and I have to say its a great card. Also its sli so if u buy the 256 version you can buy another card and have them both running at the same time when it gets a little older and more power hungry games come out (you will need an sli board for this option). I did extensive research on which card should go im my new system and this came out on top. YOU SHOULD ALSO CHECK YOUR POWER SUPPLY CAN HANDLE IT (i've got a 550w, with external power).

You can't beat it when you had 15 fps on counter strike source bumped up to 150 fps

always prefered ATi, currently using a x1800xl, can't complain with it, runs doom3 and HL2 smoothly at pretty high settings.

Not sure how big nvidea cards are, but i had to move my HDD to fit my card as i couldn't get the power cable into the HDD, as it was too close to G/card

Buy a nVidia if you like playing games.

Buy an ATI if you like changing driver versions every 2 days depending on what game you might like to play but can't because the drivers don't work.
