    Help identify this problem?

    Was out in the coupe last night, at a junction and had full lock on to turn either left or right (cant remember now)..

    anyway, theres was a loud knocking, like a clunk, clunk, clunk.. noise.

    Is this likely to be the bearing, bushes, ball joints?

    Any ideas, got all day off tommorow so going to have a look, but any help or ideas would be apreciated

    how would i tell if the CV joint has gone then?

    It'll make a clunk clunk clunk on full lock.

    Have a look and see if any off the rubber gaiters have split on the drive shafts

    Zafira.. as this is in the Zaffy section

    does sound like a cv joint to me also, do as Ffoeg says.. check rubber gaitors & signs of oil/grease.

    took the front wheels off today, theres no splits in the rubbers or anything, very little play at all, and no signs of oil/grease.. any other suggestions?

    p.s can someone move this to the normal general chat please

    Hate to shed some light on this to be honest, but two years ago mine did the exact same thing, but the CV's were all OK.

    I got the answer 3 days later, gearbox oil all over the drive, the left hand side of the Diff had collapsed and put a hole in the diff casing. One new F23 box fitted a week later!!

    I know its not a zafira but... My dads Passat does it too, the CV Boot has twisted therefore all the grease has come out and its basically dry. Its a nasty clunk when you set off with some lock. Id put it down to the CV joint mate.
