Anyone ever owned\had experience with an RX-7?

Have been offered a Mazda RX7 Gen 3 for a good price. Really mint car as we know the original owner etc.

What are the pitfalls of owning a car like this?

Rebuilding the engine every X,000miles (forget how many) is prob the biggest pitfall.

Great cars..... not exactly cheap if something goes wrong. Running costs are pretty high as Jace says.

Oh, and if it's the same as the RX-8s you have to put about a litre of oil in or so every other time you fill up with petrol.

Meant to be pretty reliable cos there's fewer moving parts in the engine etc. Unless you can definitely afford to run it, insure it (properly ) and keep a good reserve in case something goes wrong - I would prob steer clear.

    Thanks for all the info

Basically, it's my mum's friend's son who owns it. He's a banker on £1.2m a year and he brought the car over to the UK from Japan about 2 years ago. Since then, it's been in my mum's friend's garage and is started up every week and serviced every time it's recommended in the manual even though it's never driven.

It's done something like 43000kms and is absolutely mint.

The money they want for it is next to nothing for what it is and I just can't help but want it like mad. It's just a completely different kettle of fish to my 1.8 Astra though and I don't know if it would work as an everyday car... although for my use I don't see why not.

Seems like a good deal if its been well looked after. Should get a wee test drive and go from there.
