    Stonechipped front bumper

whats the best way to sort out a stonechipped front bumper?
i have so many i think i need a respray.
if i had it resprayed would the bodyshop be able to give it some extra protection against stone chips to stop it happening in the first place?
when i try touching up the paint it looks rubbish and isn't blended in.
my car is a black astra GSI mk4. so polish in the stonechips looks rubbish.
    Thanks

you could get it resprayed and then have chip protection film allplied if you really wanted to avoid them, It's like a special covering which gets stuck on that you cant see. Miss VXR has it on her bonnet IIRC

well you could ask them to put more laquer on but it's still gonna chip. Ive been told you cant actually see the film when it's on though, not seen it in person mind you.

This is what i have just started.

Well after doing my car a couple of weeks ago it became more noticable how badly stone chipped my pro drive bumper was. My car is does 380 miles a week all motorway and the front was peppered with chips.
If this goes wrong i will get a pro to re-spay it but thought i would give it ago my self.
    stage 1.
Washed the car and tried to remove all ground in polish out of the chips.
    I was left with this.

I then clayed it to try and make the surface as clean as possible and then i opened up the new chip stick pen. Tried to fill the chips in with a cocktail stick but it was taking for ever and i could not get the hang of it so i trimmed the brush pen and used that.
after 1 1/2 hours i had done an area of about 10cm by 10cm, here is it so far.

I covered at least 90% of the chips some, in the above pics some of the flake looks like chips.
I used nearly half the pen so i am back to the paint shop to get another one.
Got the 2500 and 2000 grit paper ready, just hope it goes ok

Right well i have left the paint to cure for a few days and decided to takle the wet sanding on the left hand side.

Pre-soaked the 2500 w&D for 1hr washed the front of the car and tackled it.

making sure the w&D never dried, i did the top half first then the bottom half first and was left with this!

    Scary stuff!

Then with 4" orange LC pad used SSR2.5 buffed off after product truly broke down really putting the pressure on at times

Then attacked with 4" LC white pad and megs #80.

    This is the out come

OK so it's not amazing and no where near as good as having a respray but i am very happy with the outcome so far. I just need to do the other side now, and a couple more on the above side.

Chips away will probably prep it and spray it for about £100-150.

They even mix up the paint to ensure a good colour match, using Dupont paint and a catalogue which shows the exact colour balance/mix. Did a great job on the corner of my splitter, when the wife managed to remove part of it on a curb!

£50 spray job won't be much cop. Think I paid £50 for the corner of my splitter to be fixed.
