    knocking noise when braking

Coming from the front, and not sure what side either... doesn't do it all the time but its now getting more current.

    What do you reckon??
The car is starting to piss me off now, if I had the money I would just get another car anf forget about this one.

Try stopping before you hit the car in front.

    I've got nothing...

Worn anti-roll bar bushes? Can make a nasty clunking noise if perished.

Roughly where abouts are these, I have a similar problem, its only a very very slight clunking noise. It also creaks when going over speed bumps - which i am lead to believe is the anti roll bar bushes also?
JP driving SRI-T, totally standard, whats the best way forward!?

Yeah stand by the drivers door & give the car a really hard push as if you are trying to roll it over, keep pushing so the car rocks from left to right (Passenger to drivers side) you normally can hear them clonking then, failing that for the cost of them & the benefit they give on cornering just jack the car up & replace them anyway, always best to put poly ones on if you can get them they last MUCH longer & give you such a better firmer ride.

If the problem was only under braking I would say you should be looking more at the brake pads, wheel bearings or D/S

Drove the car to Kwik Fit, for a free check over... I couldn't be asked to jack the car up and get underneath it myself.
Everything is tight apart from the nut that holds the insert in, which was only slightly undone.
Drove up the road and it was still doing it, but they did not look under the bonnet... which makes me wonder that its engine mount or the anti roll bar bushes which was mentioned in the posts above.

Strut nut sounds likely - I had this before on my mk1, it only needs to be a wee bit loose and the insert will move in about in the casing.

It needs to silly tight: 200lbf ft
