    Random Engine light

Hi guys - a little help if you please! this light randomly comes on on my Mk4 Astra, if i have been driving at high speeds and I haven't a clue what it is!! It is just a solid light, not flashing.

    http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...t/DSC00390.jpg

If I pull over switch off the engine for 20 seconds, and then turn it on again the light disappears and is fine for the rest of the journey. It doesn't appear all the time but is random and annoying! Any help?

    Thanks,
    Matt

    Don't have a rev counter! It's a 1998 Mk 4 LS 1.7 TD

May get one soon though if I can be bothered to get all the clocks out etc but for a car with 160k (just rolled over today ) on it i don't know if I can be bothered.

Having said that I do have some GSi Lights coming and a new bumper so who knows?

Also, I don't know if I can be bothered to get it sorted or not - doesn't seem to be doing any harm, its just annoying and could be expensive... what do you guys think?

with a 1998 mk4 you can read the ecu codes using the paperclip method.

Before anyone says it doesn't work, it does because I do it on my 1998 mk4. Search for paperclip and you should find loads of info, its cheaper than paying vxl 30-50 notes to tell you that you need to spends alot more on a new ........

There's not really enough electronics on a TD to be worried - if it keeps going then I wouldn't worry about it.

Does the ecu light have to be on permanently for me to do the ecu test? because it is intermittent... just curious before i wedge my paperclip in there!
