Hey Rob, hows tricks?
mk 4 2.0 16v - 134bhp - 138lbf. ft - 129mph - ins grp 12
mk 4 2.2 16v - 144bhp - 149lbf .ft - 133mph - ins grp 13
though the Z18 isnt a bad engine either:
mk 4 1.8 16v - 123bhp - 125lbf. ft - 130mph - ins grp 8
(these figures, especially ins grp are for the hatch)

If you're looking to buy, then note that the Z18XE engine started in Sept 2000 - the early Mk 4 1.8s '98-'00 had the X18XE1 - 113bhp - 125.4lb.ft - ins 7/8

What do you want to do with it in the future? for example why buy a 1.8 if you are going to want more power and start modding it in a few months time? might as well go straight for the 2.2.......
The 2.2 is a great car. I have had the 1.8 and the 2.0 and the 2.2 is much better, it's the best Mk4 Astra I have had up to now engine wise.
i made this the other day and thought it might help a bit sometimes.... (not all correct i know if someone lets me know any main errors i can update it)

2.0 is insurance group 11 AFAIK. The 2.2 is 13.
as for the 2.0 v 2.2 debate. IMHO it comes down to how much money you have to spend. I doubt you'll get a good 2.2 for below £3.5K-ish.
