    Question An odd squeek

Right, My car has been making a really odd squeeking lately, coming from the drivers side of the engine. The "speed" of the squeek changes with the engine speed and its most noticable when stopped with the engine running, I suspect the aux drive belt - the one that runs the air con etc. Anyone changed this? is it hard? how much for a new one????

    Thanks in advance

Nice and easy to change, just need a 15 or 16 spanner onto the tensioner pulley, lever the tensioner away and pop the belt off, best to then run the car quickly to see if the noise has gone, if it has you know it's the belt or something driven by the belt, alt, a/c etc, if not then you got to look at the timing belt pulley's, water pump etc. You could try spraying the belt with a bit of lube first ( wd40 etc ) to see if this makes a difference, saves removing belt first

The belt's about £10 from any good factor.

Don't you have to undo one of the engine mounts to get the belt off?

sorry to butt in ,i use a spray called belt dressing you should get it from most motor factors which elimanates belt squeel .I would not advise wd40 as when it dries i can cause cracks in belt material.have you checked the alternator bearing ,switch all the lights, rear heater, on at idle (i.e load the battery )and listen for a noticeable change in squeel, hope this may help.
