    Power Pipes

Having a done the air box mod and Veccy Inset mod I'm now wondering about changing pipes.

I know the OM pipe distorts on boost but do you really loose that much power? I understand the need on a modded turbo with a ECU remap.

Is is worth it for a standard Turbo?
Anyone know what bhp different it makes if any?

"I know the OM pipe distorts on boost" - i personally dont believe that - i think its a marketing ploy - if it collapses why did vauxhall not change the design?, altho the design is slightly different for the vxr engine - no power will be gained imo either - its just bling - the c20let used to collapse but that was a bit of crap plastic nothing like the z20 let pipe (which i would like to see one collapse before i belive it)

I was testing the engine after making the air box mods to ensure no warning lights came on. I did this with the bonnet up and you can see the pipe distort (Not Collaspe).

We know that different pressures on the inside and outside of a pipe will cause distortion especially if the pipe is not strong enough to withstand the pressure difference.

i had to change my power pipe because it was collasping under boost, i've got the court astra h one and it looks nice and don't collaspe or anything, i don't think you will get any extra power as i can not feel any. but it's worth getting one anyway.

The crossover pipe from the intercooler to the top hat is under positive pressure at all times that the engine is under boost. If someone would kindly explain how something under pressure, like a balloon, can collapse on itself, I will buy them a beer

I was thinking how could it collapse if it's under positive pressure! I can see it balooning which is also no good, but not collapsed! Maybe wrong term used?

All the Mk5 LET engines have a solid insert on this pipe, not just the VXR. When the pipe is hot, it gets soft and it is possible for it to be sucked flat under lift off conditions. Also, this pipe does distort under boost - next time you are on the rollers, check it out, it moves a fair bit. Not saying the distrotion will cause a problem though, possibly a very very small increase in lag if anything.

I've replaced all mine with silicone and the Mk5 solid section.
