    this has to be the most technical thread ever!

    can't believe i am asking this question....


    can someone please tell me how (smirking to myself with embarisment) to remove the standard gear knob

    Either pull it directly upwards and it might come off, or just cut off the rubber bit and then remove the metal underlying bit with a hacksaw (not the shaft tho)

    Do not twist it as you'll bugger it

    having exactly same problems, cant even pull it off directly upwards... does a lot of force need to be used to pull it off? worried about damaging it !!

    takes a damn lot of force... but pull directly upwards and wiggle it back and forth (not twisting).

    or just cut it off

    some of them don't pull off IIRC, as clemo sxi found when he pulled the whole gear linkage out of there, had to go to vauxhall and have a whole new gear linkage put in then, think the cutting method is the best idea.

    Just been out (yes in the dark!!) and started on mine... started cutting it off, and BOY its messy !!

    Mobile cam by the way

    Managed to get this lot off 10 mins ago !!


    The tool/s I used to get it off !!


    But it still isnt finished - bit too dark in my car so will continue it tomorrow

    still struggling to get the bits (as in the pics above) off !! does the top plastic cap come off too to fit my richbrook gearknob?

    yep id dose you should of come down to hornchurch i would of taken it off in a few mins for you no probs
