HELP, lost power, Emissions Warning Light Flashing

    Hi all,

while pulling out of a junction i lost engine power, had a couple of mis-fires
then the the emissions light comes on and flashes repeatedly. from reading other forums i see it could be the EGR or even a cat. Is it worth just biting the bullet and get it plugged in at vaux. does anyone how much would the diagnostic cost?

    thanks

Not sure if you have a DIS pack or distrubutor on your model but is could be breaking down under strain. Have you checked leads and spark plugs?

2002 1.6 has a coil pack. Could be that, unlikely to be the EGR as the Z16 doesn't have one AFAIK.

Don't think it's the exhaust either, bit young for the OE exhaust to be giving up the ghost unless it's done a stack of miles.

Sounds like a coil pack issue. I've had 3 ERG's now. When they go you will get an emmisions light usually (mine came on while I was going down the M6). Drove round with it on for 2 weeks till Vaux could have it back in. See vauxhall mate get a read out of all the faulty parts. Plugging it into a tech 2 seems to cost about £30 - £40ish. But its worth it otherwise you could be replacing items that are not faulty.

Jam here's a little info that I've discovered recently.

Wasn't sure on the relevance to the above problem which is why I didn't say anything about it before.

Evidently Vx have done an ECU reflash for the 1.6 which allows the engine to run without an EGR valve. If you blank off an EGR or peg it open so it's permanently open the engine doesn't like it a great deal. However if you get Vx to reflash the ECU with a new software package then the car runs like new again.
Costs £38 I hear to get the reflash done although some Vx dealers will do it for free if you ask nicely.

Didn't want to say as I thought the Z16 didn't use an EGR valve like the Z18 doesn't but the X16 and X18 do.

Trancemaster if you want a new coil pack PM me as I have a brand new one for that engine still in VX box going cheaply. Don't pay the £180 that Vx want for one. 5 min job to change.
