How many of u have 2004 Model year 1.8's?

Right, this cambelt change thing has raised itself again. My car has 60K cambelt changes - confirmed by Vx.

Am I the only person here with a 1.8 on a 53 or newer plate (MY '04), 'cause no-one else seems to agree with me (or Vx) on this.

I need to find others here with the same car to confirm once and for all.

Any and all Vauxhalls with timing belts should be done at 4 years or 40k. Doesn't matter what the service schedule, or your dealer, or the boy down the road says. Better spending £100 on a timing belt than £1000 on a new engine.

its always best to get the cambelt changed early.... i would recommend at least 6month/5k early....

the cambelt on my pug snaped before the change was due.

Simple, when is youe cambelt due for a change?

    I have an 03 1.8 z18xe - same engine - and mine is VX recommended at 40K

Get it done early, too many horror stories of them breaking early

For my 1.8 astra g vauxhall said change it no later than 80k but recomend doing it at 40k. I would do it sooner rather than later, a cam belt is cheaper than an engine.

I have posted this answer in another thread:-

Link below gives you a PDF of my service book stating the cambelt changes for cars from Nov 2003 onwards. May apply to slightly older cars in 2003 also.

    http://homepage.ntlworld.com/agmpcre...astrabelts.pdf

There we have it 60K belt changes on 1.8's and also 1.4's, and a couple of other engines too

Sorry mate but as I said on the other thread, your not right. Vx made a number of errors in the printing of the Astra manuals. These have since been corrected by informing all the dealers that the cambelt should be changed at 40K and NOT 60K as per the incorrect entry in the manual. They also got the tyre pressures wrong on a few models which they've since recitfied.

I know it says 60K but if it breaks at 45K Vx will not honour the warranty as they will claim that your dealer had advised you to get it changed regardless of what the manual says. If your Vx dealer is saying 60K then get them to write it down so you can make them pay when it does break.

Mine is exactly the same engine, a Z18XE and I've known for a long time it's 4years or 40K whichever come first.
