    Tinting Front OE lights

I was just wondering how easy it would be to tint my standard front lights to look like late SXi / Coupe lights? How would I go about this? Doo you spray the actual inside of the light, or just the plastic surrounding the light?

I was reading that Oddjob was planing on doing this? Anyone know if hes done it yet and how he delt with it?

    You called!

Sten is right, i've done it.

First you need to split your standard headlight.

How to do that is covered HERE. (Part of THIS thread.)
Then it's just a case of preparing the silver insert for spraying.

I rubbed mine down with an abrasive pad on every surface, you'll take the chrome off, but it gives a better key for the paint.

Then apply 3 or 4 thin coats of plastic primer. The paint has a tendancy to react for some reason, so a good clean before is worth it.

Once the primer is on, you can then spray the insert which ever colour you like.
I went for a Satin Black, but this bits up to you.

Then once it's all dry, you can seal the unit up (ref:- link above)

It's all down to preperation. Take your time and it'll be difficult to tell you've had the unit apart.

    Cheers alot mate

Does the light come apart in three pieces then?

The lense, the reflective light surround and the chrome bit you spray?

How much does the paint cost and where do you buy it / the abrasive pad and plastic primer from? Halfords or somewhere more specialised?

Personally, I would just change them for the OE ones. HOWEVER, I can't on my Zaffy Gsi, and that really needs them tinted! Only OE option on that is for me to get a pair of Zenon OE units which were tinted = mega cost.

The Astra ones won't be too expensive if you shop about. I haven't got the time to take out the headlamps, split them, etc.

How long does this process take for each lamp out of interest?

About 15-25 mins depending on the amount of sealant in the headlight.

Of couse Zaffys don't get this option, so if you want a cheap way of getting tinted headlights.
    This is the only way.

TBH Id rather do it myself than buy some in. The cars of the road till the end of the month, so this gives me time to do the airbox mods too.

Thats pretty quick, even I can find the time for that! I hope the Zaffy ones are as easy as you make the Astra ones sound. Maybe a while b4 I pluck up the courage to do it - only just got the car!

    Hey

I was wondering about this too. quite tempted to have a go at this myself.

If not does anyone know where's the best place to get a set of OE units? Scrappys/Breakers/VX? How much do they go for?

    Cheers
