    My Old rides:

Above: "Erica" (& me) 1969 series IIa SWB Landrover 1 1/4 petrol. They only made this particular model for one year, so they are quite rare, most people looking at it think it's a series III as most series IIa's had the lights behind the grille, but for one year before they began making series III's the late IIa's had the headlights moved to the wings. There are a couple of ways to tell the difference, one is the series III has a circular air vent on the side of the front wing, and IIa's (should) have a metal mesh grille, not plastic (as Erica has in this pic) I later sourced an original metal grille to replace the plastic series III one that someone had stuck on.

Above: "the shed" L reg mk3 astra merit 1.4i 3 door. I had big plans for it but they never happened, the most that happened was the blaupunkt ICE that is now in the scrapheapchallenge, I put on clear indicators and side repeaters, and light brows. Waste of time really, finally sold it on ebay for £350, then 2 days later bought the alloys for the scrapheapchallenge for £349. It may have been worth more if my dad hadn't vandalised it one drunken afternoon. I borrowed his car to go to work as my MOT had run out (this was when it was advertised for sale) and he offered to take it and get it MOT'd for me.

I came back to find that he'd got drunk and decided that a rotten patch near the fuel cap and some other bubbly rust spots on the same panel and wheel arch needed "fixing", so without sanding back the rust, smoothing or filling, or even picking up the can of official vauxhall glacier white paint on the shelf that matched the car, OR for that matter bothering to mask off anything properly, he attacked the panel with a can of white hammerite spray paint...

I could have killed him. I was going to sell it and tell the buyer that if they only wanted a cheap runabout and didn't care about looks they could leave it, or they could get the panel fixed. As it was he made it WORSE and caused £200 of damage, that's £200 I had to then knock off the asking price of the car, I could have killed him!

Incidcentally I only bought the car because my friend Claire got me drunk and persuaded me to buy her fiancee's astra because her dad was appalled that I intended to buy some "jap crap" Mazda 323F and insisted I buy something british at all costs LOL.

Then again it impressed me enough for me to buy another one. I liked the handling in snow, mpg and general driveability, and it was nifty when you got your toe down considering it's engine and age, in fact the newer astra which supposedly has more BHP doesn't feel as powerful as the shed, which is dissapointing, but the shed hit 100,000 miles and just started to die, everything kept going wrong and it was spending more time off the road than on it so I started looking for a newer astra, I wanted a mk4 but ended up with another mk3. Ironically by the time the shed was sold, it had just about everything new or replaced and had so much work done on it that I'd spent more money on it in the last 9 months or so that I owned it than I actually got for selling it.

I think it is a replica. Not certain but I think real ones have rear opening quarter windows.

This is my old Mk2 Astra GTE 16v. I ran 230bhp from the original NA engine and managed a 13.89s quarter mile (see videos).
