    Angry Bonnet Struts Problem!

    Hi Guys,

Just decided to fit a pair of bonnet struts to my Mk4 Astra and everything was going to plan until i tried to close the bonnet after fitting both struts.

Looks as though the top of the bonnet (nearest the windscreen) is offset slightly towards the drivers side causing the knuckle of the strut attached to the bonnet itself to catch on the wing stopping the bonnet closing.

Can anyone provide instructions on the best way to space the top of the bonnet out equally or any other way I can get round this problem!!

    Cheers!

I have the same problem with my struts but only on one side.

The way i thought off is to move the hole on the top bracket over so that the strut sits towards the bonnet more therefore missing the wing when closed, haven't got round to do this yet though.

You want something heavy and metal like a hammer and just knock the wing down a little... will need some paint, but its the only real fix.

Astrase20 - you cheeky bugger Sean!!! (but totally correct!! )

Cheers for the link COO! The struts were fitted as in the pics but I have noticed that when the bonnet is closed (without struts) the gap between the wing and the top of the bonnet is about 6mm on the passenger side and about 2mm on the drivers side. Dunno if its possible to adjust these gaps??

I'm in Paris at the mo or would provide piccies to show you!

The passenger side fits ok on mine but not the drivers side like yours, let me know how you get round this.

The gaps should be the same size both sides of the bonnet, You might be able to loosen off the bonnet fixings and adjust it, if you want i'll be over when your back to have a look
