Tried my first 2.2 Astra today!

    Evening,
After everyones advice from here I went out and tried a 2.2.
I really wanted to try a coupe but I had a look at a lovely black 2.2 sri instead.

I must admit I injoyed it. Nice driving position, quick (although not what I would call fast, I was kinda expecting it to feel a bit quicker...) and lovely quiet and smooth at motorway speeds.
Also drove a new celica and there wasn't much in it. The astra definately had more mid range punch but overall didn't feel much different in speed (although you do sit a bit closer to the ground in the Celica). Similar comfort level but the celica had terrible visibility! That spoiler really gets in the way!

Can anyone comment if the driving experience to the normal hatch and the coupe is much different? I tried to find a coupe to try to do but they were all autos!

Coupe has no visibility, the coupe is a tad firmer than a sri imo and looks a damn site better.

If your going to get a 2.2 mk4 gotta be a coupe, get one in leather and its a very nice car.

    Get a se2, even better.

    I picked a se2 over a celica, gav

I owned the Astra Coupe SE1 and now I have a hatch, and I prefer the hatch better. I don't think the Coupe handles as good as the hatch, but the Coupe does look nice . I have my first 2.2 Astra Sri and I love it, the engine is much better than my other Astras I have owned .

The Coupe handles better than the Hatch. (Where is Geoff?)

I think the Coupe is a much nicer car to look at, just needs lowered, esp at the back.

The 2.2 is only 144bhp so it aint gonna set the world on fire, it's quick enough for everyday driving though.

I must admit I prefer the look of the coupe. The fact that they are that little bit rarer is also apealling.
On the flipside the hatch is more pratical...
Hmmmm... I'll have to try harder to find a 2.2 manual coupe to test drive...
