1.7 DTi Astra Van Keeps stalling :(

a friend of mine has a W reg Mk4 Astra Van 1.7 DTi with the vauxhall engine in it. this morning and ever since it keeps stalling. he had someone to look at it and basically if you lock and inlock the van it will start again and run for a few mins then stall. the bloke says its the immobiliser but has something to do with the diesel pump?? he said that it requires a new pump but im unsure as isnt there a electronic diesel control unit on these engines?

hi right the vauxhall low blow you wana be hopin it aint the pump! these cost 300 pounds upwards for one second hand! the bloke who looked at it is right the chip in the key talks to the pump and tells it, it aint been nicked! best thing to do is to remove pump and get your local vauxhall dealer to bench test it, common prob on the 1,7dti espically is you always run the tank low drags up shit over time, fuel pumps up but wont transfer to the injectors theres a small camshaft in the pump it breaks, but it starts if you mess around with the keyfob? best thing to do is to get it too vauxhall it either needs a reprogram or pump

there is big pressures running in a diesel, if its a common rail it will run up to about 26,000psi thats why the pump is so expensive. there might be a lift pump first in the systen to ensure your main pump has a constant feed to it. check that and all filters before rushing out and buying things you might not need
