Question 2 Engine conversions.. A couple of Q's

Well, as the title suggests i'm gonna be changing the engine in my astra, along with a mate at the same time!!

This is something i've never attempted before although i'm confident me and a few mates can pull it off. (mates done a coulple of nova conversions)

Mine is going from a 1.8 (Z18XE) to a Z20LET. the good thing here (he hopes) is that it should be a straight swap as the turbo lump is also in a mk4 astra

So 1. will i be able to use the loom from my hatch and just plug in the new engine and ecu to that???

    2. I've not really any idea of how much a Z18XE is worth as i now have to sell it!! has 33000 miles well looked after, any ideas would be appreciated!

The second conversion is goin to be a V6

Hoping for the Z26XE here although whatever is available at the time will probably be used. I know this one is going to cause us problems so if anyone has any advice or info that would be great.

I know a couple have V6's in their G's, what were the main problems gettin it in and running??

When the project gets rolling i will get some pics up. Maybe a month or so yet tho still in planning.

    Thanks in advance guys!!!

zlet will probably need the loom for the engine but the rest will be the same.

I will have both cars next to each other when we do it so any parts can be easily transferred. Methinks a week off could be in order!!

Keep us all informed mate, I'm very interested in both of these conversions, Mines, a Z18XE too, Get loads of photos and put them up here!

When are you starting? What gearbox are you going to use on the LET?

Personally I'd go straight for the Z32SE

As the AstraG cooling is all ECU controlled, there may be some issues, integrating that with the V6 as Vectra Bs at least still run relays.

both the LET and V6 are big block, so you'll have that issue with your baby 1.8.

when i changed my c16se to a 20xe (both Mk3 Astra engine's) the 'car' side of the loom stayed the same, but the engine side had to be swopped for a 20xe loom... and there were about 8 wires that had to be sliced around the ECU to match up old car loom to new engine loom...

dropping inthe Z20Let will be easy enough as long as you have all the parts avaiable. As for the wiring of the Z20LEt that is a very different matter. Unless you have the complete loom for the Z20LET for inside the bay and inside the car expect to have alot of headaches.

As for the V6 its been covered soo many times just do a search on it, as its been really well covered in the past

as ive recently found out...you need the right abs pump to match the looms for the brakes, the right interior loom for the tc and esp, mfd aswell as the header tank, washer bottle, stalks, brakes depends on what you have etc etc

    easier than a v6 though
