    vxr turbo mod

hey. what advantage do you get from fitting a vxr replacement turbo.
is it not more beneficial to get a phase 1 remap instead?

The turbo will give u no extra gains, it is a stronger turbo than the mk4 ZLET engine has ... it is kinda inbetween the standard mk4 turbo and the hybrid one offered by Courtenay and the like.

Remap and that turbo will see slightly better gains than a remap with a standard mk4 turbo ... but i dont think they'll be any difference on the standard map if u just swop them over.

imagine the standard turbo - 200bhp from the factory - now add a remap to take you to 240 and theres a little more strain on your standard turbo

take the vxr unit - standard power 240bhp - now put it on your car and get the remap to produce 240 bhp and as the turbo is built for that power, the theory: your not working that turbo as hard.

That's the reason that I'm hoping to get the turbo changed on my 888 pretty soon - running 255bhp - I always feel guilty about the standard one running so hard - have the vxr turbo sitting in the dining room - need to get it on and then it'll sort out my actuator problems out!

So do we think that the VXR turbos are more durable? Are they gonna last longer than a standard one? But are they as robust as a hybrid? More swings and roundabouts.....

My car had a new standard turbo under warranty at about 14,000 miles, now it is near needing another at 20,000 miles. Car is totally standard and has been well serviced, allowed to warm up before booting it, and allowed to cool down before switching off etc - I think they are a bit of a weak link really and I'm sure others will agree.

They should be more durable, they have some changed internal parts, a better actuator and better quality casting material in the manifold.

You should see a slight gain over the std ZLET turbo, the flow rate is also slightly better on the VXR one.

It should also be more reliable than a Turbo Dynamics one as these are essentially reconditioned units.

Imo, get yourself the VXR turbo first, then get a remap later when you have more cash. Getting a stage one now is a waste of money if you are intending to get the VXR turbo in the future anyway.

The castings on the manifold are improved too
