    vxr test drive

I bought my mk4 gsi from a lad in yorkshire, he happened to be a vx mot tester.

i took my car down to him yesterday to get its 3rd sevive done and to have a peek at his vxr!!

after giving it a quick wash he let me have a spin in it .

i thought it seemed more solid and squat on the road than the gsi.
the seats were excellent, held you like a vice.
and the accelleration was something else!
THEN you got the extra gear!!!

put it thisway i was very impressed (nice empty dual carrageway)

    hope these pics work.

    The pics work mate

Glad to hear they handle well, for me it would have to to compete with the likes of the golf gti which I was very impressed with

Compete with a golf, have you not seen the posters vauxhall have been putting up, " The Astra VXR Thrashes the Golf GTI " The golf simply can not compete, even the R32 is a questionable competitor for 8K more !!!!

I'd have to drive one to make my own comparrision

Mind you I prefered the normal GTi over the R32

I would not under estimate the new GTI Golf, I had wrote this car off as slow to until I drove it. As for the VXR thrashing the Golf GTI I really disagree, for a car with 40bhp more the VXR should, but when you look at the figures below from EVO magazine its quicker but not a lot and in certain gears it is a lot slower than the GTI. I have driven both and yes the VXR feels quicker but not as much as I had thought it would. I am in the market for a new car and am still unable to decide VXR or GTI.

Here are the figures I found, they make interesting reading.

    ACCELERATION TIMES

    ----- -- VXR--- GTI

    0-30--- 2.6 --- 2.7
    0-40--- 3.7 --- 3.9
    0-50--- 5.0 --- 5.2
    0-60--- 6.7 --- 6.7
    0-70--- 8.7 --- 9.0
    0-80--- 10.9 --- 11.1
    0-90--- 14.3 --- 14.5
    0-100-- 17.4 --- 17.9

    IN GEAR TIMES

    2nd
    20-40 --- 2.3 --- 2.2
    30-50 --- 2.2 --- 2.3
    40-60 --- na --- 2.8
    3rd
    20-40 --- 3.9 --- 3.3
    30-50 --- 3.0 --- 3.2
    40-60 --- 3.0 --- 3.3
    50-70 --- 3.4 --- 3.5
    60-80 --- 3.9 --- 4.1
