Not a good start to the day......

I stayed over at Trudy's last night and we were awoken at 04:54 by people running about in the corridors banging on doors. When they got to Trudy's flat we heard someone shout FIRE - GET OUT QUICK!! Trudy then answered the door, and said where is the fire. The reply was "there is a car on fire under the building."

Great. Where is mine and Trudy's Astra's parked? Under the building.

So, I am hunting around trying to find something to wear and my car keys and then said to Trudy I will meet you downstairs on the road. I got out of the door, down the corridor to the stair well and open the door to be met with loads of smoke. I thought I better go back and wait for Trudy. So I waited and then went downstairs together.

The police were first on the scene, they radioed in "Yes, there is a fire!" About 3 minutes later the Fire Brigade turned up. After standing outside for about 15 minutes, the Police said the landlord at the pub down the road was opening up to let us in, as some people were in dressing downs etc.

At just gone 06:00 we were given the all clear to return to the building. As we got closer, we could hear running water. The water pipes have melted so there is water gushing out under the building and I can hear it hitting the cars.

The Police will not let anyone near the underneath of the building, so I dont know how bad our cars are. It was not one of the main ones alight as that was a Renault Megane, and the Toyota Yaris was badly damaged next to it. I asked if any of the car were damaged opposite, and they dont know. It is now a crime scene, so I cannot move my car till the scenes of crime officer has been and they dont know when that will be.

I have a hair cut at 09:30 and my car is booked in for an MOT at 15:00. I still need to do a few things before it is MOT'd.

Chris has just been downstairs to have a look and the police are still there and the back of the building is black all the way up. They say we can't go near anything for the rest of the day.

So we're going to have to rely on lifts for the day

Really glad it didn't get in the building or we'd have a really bad problem.

    'POLICE - DO NOT CROSS'

Can I just have a quick look at the front of my car?
    "No."

When can I move my car - I need to be somewhere for 09:30.
"No idea what time, may be for the rest of the day."

But, I have my MOT booked in for 15:00.
"You will be best to cancel it."
