F18 I believe? Someone please confirm. Edit: is your reverse up and left or right and down?

as for the hard gearchanges, does it get easier as the box warms up?

ok, im 70% sure you have an F18 box, otherwise im totally confused coz I can't remember if mine is up and left or down and right but I know I have the F23 box. :-S

im wondering if a synchro gear is worn, or it could be a worn shaft?

make sure you depress the clutch fully too, also bleed your clutch (it works off the same cylinder as the brakes) as this may help.

does it always go in to gear but just seems a little notchy or does it sometimes refuse.

Check for leaks around the gearbox, the fluid may be down.

My 1.6 astra is a pain to get into first however when it warms up it gets a little better.

I have just put it down to just the way the box is. Don't think its got a problem.

If you find a solution I wouldn't mind knowing as I would prefer it to be a bit smoother.

    Gearbox probs

Check the fluid level in the box, when they come out the factory you will generally find they are low and this can make a big difference, my 02 sxi needed bout half a litre till it dripped out of the level bung, very common !
If this makes no difference then change the gearbox oil but consult your vauxhall dealer as to which oil goes in as it differs between boxes.
