    Unhappy Tropical Fish

The gf has a 45 litre bio-orb type thing,

    She has
2 mollys,6 tiger bahms, 2 black widow tetra, an ague eater and three neons.

She started out with 5 neons and 2 died quite quicky then the other three developed fin rot (thats what we were told they had) we have been putting in treatment (Anti fungus and fin rot by interpet). they have not been getting better but have not died!!

On sat she got two Danios, on sun one of these died and now the 3 ill neons have died and all the tiger bahms (which are normally really lively) have become very quiet.

We have done a water check and it all seems ok.

Basically asking all fishy experts, do you think we have a problem? or do fish tend to die in groups and does this effect the other fish?

    Many thanks

Get a decent water check at a local Aquarists/Garden Centre. They'll do a better analysis than a home kit.

Also it could be down to bullying, Tiger Barbs have a reputation for being bullies so its quite possible they are bullying the smaller fish.

I would have put it down to the Tiger Barbs being bullys, but how come they have gone quiet? they normally 'fight/play' between themselves.

Will have to ask the local fish shop if they can do a water check, but we cant get there till the weekend

How long was the tank set up for before you put the neons in? Should be a minimum of 6 weeks for those. Danios are usually ok early on but as said, probably got stressed out from the barbs chasing them or whatever. You put anny stress coat in there? If not try adding some, most aquarium places should have it, in a yellow bottle. Theres that or stress zyme.

it's not bullying. tiger barbs are schoaling fish and in groups of anything above 4 or 5 they aren't aggressive at all.

Putting fish that are 'unwell' in a tank of well fish can kill them off like flies... You have to be careful, most fish from shops are usually in ipretty average shape when you get them, fin rot kills them from the stress of it all... Keep an eye on them (especially when putting in new fish) and make sure no one is attacking in the dark (when they do it the most)...the "treatments" work OK - but anti fungal treatment (like tank water fungi) is very bad for fish.... It makes all my fish very sick... doesn't kill them, but makes them sick... The best treatment is to isolate the sick fish (it is stressful for them but they die, not the others too)...
