The CDTi engines on the last Mk4s are the best by some way (they are all quite new and pricey though). The 2.0 DTi isn't bad - from about 99' onwards iirc.

1.7DTi is a quiet and economical engine, but a bit gutless. 75hp, so unless you're just pootling about town it's not much good. Fuel economy is well over 60mpg if you keep the speed down.

2.0DTi is the best going of the Mk4 diesels. 100hp & 170lb/ft. Worst fuel economy I've seen is 38mpg (200+ miles at over 100mph), best I've seen is 60mpg. The 2.0DTi is rough as a badger's tadjer though, and can smoke a fair bit when caned. Performance is pretty much exactly the same as a 1.6 16v.

The 1.7CDTi is probably the best engine, despite it being only 80hp. A nice remap should see 110-120hp though.

Did they put the 100ps CDTi in the mk4 SXi/SRi?

I was out in a family members SXi and it wasn't till we got to our destination (half hour drive) and I looked at the boot badge I realised I'd just been in a CDTi - actually thought it was a 1.8 petrol it was that quiet and smooth.

The 2.0 DTi is the worst Diesel engine i think i have ever experienced in a modern car... My dad has a 20K Vectra C hire car with this engine in and its absolute crap and doesnt go at all - the VAG diesels are far superiro - get a goldf 150 Pd GTTDI

U cant compare the 2.0Dti to the 150PD GTITDI, its got 50bhp more! And costs a hell of a lot more. The vectra is a big car and the engine is not suited to it.

I would agree the vectra is sluggish with the 2.0 DTi, the Astra shifts along a lot better with it although its not very refined.
