    Cold cathodes x 4

Trying to wire 4 of these 12 inchers up to the boot light but nothing
happens... Either poor attempt at wiring or lack of power, your thoughts
please before I rip the lot out and start again!

    Cheers,
    Darren

if u've got a multi meter check that there is 12volts DC goin to the boot light. also these cold cathode tubes need a ballast to start them like a normal strip light you would find in the kitchen. have you wired it up with all the positives and negatives in the right place?

Multi meter check is a good idea, will try that this evening...

With regards to the ballasts, I brought 2 complete kits off eBay, both kits
came with 2 tubes, 1 switch mounted on a metal plate and a sound box
which allows for the bulbs to blink to the music... no ballasts...

+ and -... I can only assume I did it correctly, worried now, will check
voltage to boot light, if all is fine, then i'm shit at wiring! lol...

    Cheers

dont't worry too much, if the cables are the same colour you will find that one of them will have either a coloured line in it to determine that its different or it will have a ridge in the sheathing, just make sure you wire like for like. as far as the ballast goes it is an aluminium box that should be able to support 4 tubes, 2 would be normal though. essentially what the ballast does is create a voltage that is in the region of 1000volts which will create the arc t light the tube, after this is will self sustain. you should have no problems just check what u hae done and work through it logically. if you have any more problems take some piccies if i cant and wither put it in this thread or pm me.

i assume the highlighted ballasts are the bits you are missing? they just wont start without these, nice that they only run 2 each tho. once you got those in you will be fine.

2 x Inverter which has 2 connections for the 2 tubes.

The above I have at home but didn't install them as I thought they were
to allow the tubes to flash with the beat of the music which I don't
want... I'm now wondering if these units have a switch to allow the tubes
to stay on constant or not... I will update...

the aluminium ballasts are onlty there to start the tube and maintain that it stays on, wiith just that they will not flash, there will be a separate control unit that will allow them to flash
