    Decisions, Decisions

Right, here goes. As some people maybe aware I am rather fond of my Astra;s, now being on my foruth. This stems back to my first car being an MK3. After playing around with the newer Vauxhalls I am having a hanckering for some calssic Griffin power, and more so like the idea of buying and restoring a MK3 Astra GSi (the car I yearned for but never owned).....my thinking on this though, is this a good idea???? I enjoy playing with the MK4 butthe MK3 would be something else entirely, and to be honest would become more of a long term project, just wondering whether it would actually be worth it or if the dream would be better than the reality.....opinions please.

The phrase 'long term' and you dont fit in the same page, never mind paragraph !

What do you mean by project ?...actually get your hands dirtier than you currently get them ?

i would go for a mk2 gte 16v and go that way, simply because i bought a mk3 sport and tbh they arent great.
On a resotration and build side the mk3 starts to have some more complicated wiring etc. Wouldnt it be nicer to do a truly mint mk2, nice cage, flocked dash and then clever bits like a mk3 gsi trip computer? stuff like that?

IMO more satisfaction and more respect is due on a car like that than a clean mk3 gsi. (there are quite a few, just look at mig!)

It would be worth it for the factor that 'you' had done it...
As you know it's gonna cost more than it will be worth

Be interesting what the outcome would be though...

    1) Concours type resto = standard
    2) Track day weapon type resto = stripped caged high power
    3) Street sleeper type resto = standard looking, high power

interesting idea - but would it mean selling the mk4 to fund the project? or just going easy on the mk4 mods? if its the latter I'd say go for it - if it involves selling your gsi, IMO I wouldn't.

Rebuilding older cars is so much more fun, as the parts are harder to track down and it becomes a full time hobby.I especially love PVS & Billing and the VBOA Spares days routing through peoples old junk to find something unique for my Nova.
