Has anyone seen an Astra 4S?

They are as rair as rocking horse poo. In late 1986 when Group B rallying was coming to an end the plan was to go with a proposed prototype formula called Group S for 1987 but it was canned. Vauxhall/Opel came up with the Astra 4S which was based on the mk2. It has twin round headlamps a 2.0 turbo engine and four wheel drive.

I have not even seen one in a museum, only in photos. I recall John Welch using one in Rallycross in the late 80's. I have a photo I took in 89 somewhere.
    Since 1992 owned a Mk1,2,3 and now 4. One day a Mk5

I had forgotten about that version of the Astra - never seen one though. They Also developed a 4WD version of the Manta for rallying but never used it.

    Found a bit more info....

    1987 Rallycross Vauxhall Astra

The Vauxhall Astra X-Trac has been built specifically for rallycross and, whilst giving the outward appearance of a road-going car, that is where the similarity ends! The bodyshell is constructed from Kevlar and Carbon-fibre and hides a full space frame chassis which is home to a 2.1 - litre turbo charged engine.

Through the X-Trac four-wheel drive system, the 650 horse-power enables the car to accelerate to 60 mph in just three seconds, which is as fast as some Formula 1 racing cars!

The transmission enables the power to be variably distributed to all four driving wheels depending on the grip available. Braking unlocks the 4 wheel driveing system making the car more responsive when turning into corners.

The car is driven by John Welch, twice winner of the British Rallycross Championship

The 4S was originaly developed duing 1986 to go rallying not rallycross, but the FIA banned all Group B cars and the intended Group S, from the WRC, as they were deemd too dangerous. So it never got used in anger.

However many of the old Group B cars found good homes in rallycross, and developed even further with power outputs towards what Group S would have been
