Would you work a 47.5 hour week??

I went for an interview recently and I really like the job but the standard week is 47.5 hours. I am used to working a 37.5 hour week or even a 35 hour week!!

The hours of work are 07:30 till 18:00 with an hour lunch.

I am thinking that I dont want to work for the 2nd largest contruction company in the UK anymore.

Does anyone else do this number of hours?

47.5? Easy stuff!! I used to work closer to 50-55 odd in one of my jobs, and my last job was 43-48 with no breaks at all.
I work a 37.5hr week now, with lunch breaks and I dont know what to do with myself half the time!

If the job aint too bad and pays well, I'd be willing to work the extra hours. If it's a company that will just use and abuse you and screw you for whatever they can, then I wouldn't.

It is Balfour Beatty joint venture.

The pay and benefits are good and that is it a huge company.

I was used to start early and finish late! lol! The extra hours I used to put in for free were ridiculous, if you've got a proper structered day and not shift work then it'll be alot better from your POV.

If you reckon the pay and benefits are good it's gotta be worth a try hasnt it? So long as you enjoy the job anyway.

I currently work about 72hrs a week at least.

9-6pm Monday - Saturday in a shop yes no break or lunch (yes I know thats illegal and whatever else but when your busy your busy).
    Sometimes work Sundays as well.
7pm-10pm my own company (and sometimes later much later like till 2am)
So just taking it from my basic were talking 72hrs a week at least.

Sometimes working so long so hard and so late really takes it toll on me health. I look dead half the time my body feels exhausted and I know when its really bad when I sleep for 24hrs in 1 go. Barely have time to eat properly so substitute eating well and take multi vitamins a day.

BUT I wouldn't recommend anyone to work for long periods of time like that coz your health does suffer and it ain't good for you.

I dont do shift work - only office work as an Assistant Accountant or anything similar in accounts. A nice 9 to 5 will do me, I am running out of things to do on the car!!
