    Engine Code

Before anyone jumps up and down and says theres a description in the tech section I am already aware.
I phoned vaux today to obtain pricing on cam belt kits and other service parts. When I asked for a water pump (which I'm replacing as a matter of course) I was asked which I engine I had. Feeling confident I told her 1.6 16v Z16XE. The smugness of me actually knowing evaporated very quickly when they asked for the rest of the code
I checked the ageing sticker on my cam cover which proudly advertises Z16XE. I started thinking WTF? I went home and checked my "car pass" and indeed there are other numbers after the Z16XE. So my question is what do these numbers and letters mean? (They obviously have some application otherwise they wouldn't of asked). My life won't expire if I don't find out but I just wondered if anyone had an idea.

    Cheers ears

lol shes blowin smoke up your a*s mate, all she needs is that code, your engine is a z16xe thats it, they can find everything they need from that, although to be on the safeside id give her your chassis number, then they can look it up to make sure they get you the right part no.

She probably wants to make sure it's not a Z16XEP, as I seem to remember them having a different pump.

Thats fine. But I'm wondering if those numbers after Z16XE mean anything or whether shes blowin smoke up my a*s. I did stress to her it was a Z16XE. She didn't ask anything more than for those numbers. Something to do with the pump. One pump is £70 and the other one is £25 but she couldn't tell me which one fitted my car until I gave her that number?

Maybe those numbers are just the engine serial number? If the pump was changed at some point in the engine's life, then there will be a transition point.
