    astra sri

    hi there i have an astra sri 200 model. when i try and start it the car wont. there is this orange light that stays on think it is sumthing to do with immoblizer.(well thats wat manual said)

    have tried a few things but car will still not start. any ideas?

    I think when the transponder immoblizer is not working in the key the orange light flashes, I don't think it stays on steady. It may be another problem, fuel pump, coil problem. Hope you get it sorted soon.

    its not makeing anysort of grinding noise is it when you turn it over ?

    Could be your battery, if they drop below a certain charge the imoliliser won't deactivate... Had that problem with my 1999 SRi as battery had enough... Try and get a hold of a mates battery, but read up on how to disconnect with the power sounder. OR get soem jump leads and hook it up to a mates car and let it get soem charge for a min then try kicking her over


    If it still doesn't start, its likely to be the starter, try putting it into 4th gear and rocking the car back and forth to turn over the engine and then take it out of gear and try the ignition system again. Sometimes starters can jam.

    Before you go buying bits and taking into vauxhall, check this, assuming that the key fell apart before this problem started. Take the key and pull the back bit off (if this is a mk4) slowly and make sure the chip is in there. I had this same problem, light, wont start and apparently the chip fell out of the key.
