    price of chipping

    how much does it cost and any1 no anywere in north yorkshire that does it. cheers all. what difference has it made to peoples engines. got 1.8 sxi 2001 model

    i was quoted £500 and they said they can't really say what increase it will give but it will be more responsive. a lot of money for something that may only increase by a couple of bhp.

    up to 8bhp thts the bit to look out for, as said earlier it may only give 2 or 3 but they say it will make you car more responsive.

    can a car be chipped and re-mapped? or are they the same thing?

    I think so, a chip changes the stock values to give the 8 bhp, whilst a remap adjusts you cars characteristics in line with your mods. Correct me if im wrong anyone.

    dont chip the 1.8 its not worth it

    Slightly disagree with that statement Danny. A superchip just aint worth it, they are only good for an unmodded engine and the benefits aren't worth the money. A Unichip which is a remap will give your mods a new lease of life, fairly easy to get up to 200bhp out of a 1.8 if your prepared to pay, 180bhp is very do-able. The Unichip will allow all the mods to blend in with each other. Around £500 for a piggyback Unichip.
