    Car RIP

I now cant get my car to start. On the occassional time it does, the engine turns off within 10 seconds. While running, it sounds like its only running on 3 or 2 cylinders. The sparks are brand new, but could it be the HT king lead or the distributor?

No dashboard lights...and yes its the 1.4Si mk 3.
Me and my mate bought some new spark leads and fitted them but still not working. Opened up the distributor and the rotor inside has degraded and there is more metal showing than there should be. My mate (being a physics geek) informed me that this mean a large amount of power was going into the air and NOT onto the metal pins which lead to the sparks. Is he right? If so anyone know how much a new rotor for the distributor is?

buy a new dizzy cap mate there only £10 or so, if that dont work test your coil, and buy some new HT leads at the same time, might as well aint you, full ignition service! if its still there its only left down to the coil, that is of course if it is the ignition system

could try a compression test also, my headgaskets blown between cylinders 1 and 2 causing the compression to drop.
As the air/fuel mix is shoved into the cylinder next to it on the compression stroke.

normally this would result in loss of power, not typical for a missfiring engine, if it isnt part of the ignition system then let us know,

if you lived a bit closer ive got the spark tester compression tester etc etc i could have it sorted for you in a couple of hours!!!!
