    Smart Car v's Concrete barrier.

    One for Sten.

Quite incredible how the main "safety cell" of the Smart holds up. Of course, without dummies and telemetry, the exercise is rather useless as I imagine the decelerations would be potentially fatal, but I still give Mercedes some credit for a great design, given the size constraints.

Cant view it at work but I take it thats the 5th gear test.

I remember seeing that at the time and it totally changed my view on smarts as I used to think they would be total death traps but they are really surprisingly solid. Although there isnt much to absorb an impact, they certainly make the most of their proportions.

Cheers for that, been looking for it for a while.

Probably could be repaired too - apart from the front, there wasn't much damage otherwise. I'd like to have seen them start it and drive away, albeit with a bit of scraping.

Just watched it, iirc they did exactly the same with a corsa b afterwards and it came off a lot worse, totally destroyed.

yea, if i crashed at that speed, chances are i would rather die than live with whateber injuries would result from it. Id be cursing the car for not capitulating while im layed up in total paralysis in intensive care.
