    Talking Opinions please

As you know, I`m up to me neck in decorating, I`ve done 2 bedrooms, the 3rd dont need doing and the bathroom just needs tidying.

I`m doing the stairs and landing at the mo, but cant decide whether to leave the bannisters as they are or paint em, bearing in mind, the walls will be magnolia ........
    What would you do ?

Personally would paint them white, at the moment they overwhelm everything around them. It depends what look you want in the hallway, if you want the subtle look then white and magnolia, but if you like the look of the stained wood then stick with it! Do the walls first and see what it looks like!

painting the stairs aint a good idea imo, it will clash with the nice brick understair cubbord you have

paint the walls first and you could decide after if you want to paint the bannisters?

    Leave em mate

they will go with the magnolia and if you paint them it will take one hell of a job getting them back to the condition they are in if you ever wanted

i love the look of varnished wood like that

MDF it! MDF the whole lot Pete!!!

What about sanding them back and staining them a lighter colour? Nicer than being painted IMO.

I say leave them, they suit the wall and it will be a nice contrast to the colour of the walls.

leave them. restoring them would be an impossible job. that look is so much nicer and because the stair is probably the only major thing in the hall, it creates a focal point.

My sentiments entirely, they`re Mahogany and have been like that for 25 years, just thought they looked oldfashioned.

Painting or re-colouring them would be a pain, sooo fiddly
