Does anyone have a secondary alarm?

If have been toying with the idea of a second alarm - really just as added security.
I have spoken to several fitters and are getting different opinions back.

I had a second alarm fitted to my old astra Gsi with worked with with the factory fitted alarm, What I was thinking was a decent Clifford alarm with is not Thatham Approved (as the factury alarm is Cat 1),I understand you can only have one set of untra sonics, which shouldn't be a problem as the Clifford works by Microwaves.

    Anyone else running similar ?

    Cheers
    Lee

Depending on how the alarm is linked to the central locking depends on what sort of alarm you go for. If say you wanted it linked to the deadlocks on the car you would have to link it via the factory remote or have to use both to disarm both alarms

The only way to disarm the factory alarm is vis the remote or the transopnder code in the ignition barrell and as far as I know there is no way around the factory alarm

Sorry if this sound like a stupid question, but why would you want a secondary alarm One is enough, the vx one i think is pretty damn good, i found that out when my damn powersounder went at 3am few months ago, surely the last thing youll want is another alarm, Ones headache enough... its got god damn back up sirens all over the place. Only thing i spose its missing is a tilt sensor.

i have a dual zone proximity sensor that i am going to interface with the current alarm, that would certainly be a cheaper option than a whole new alarm!
Fitted options: Folding mirrors, cruise control, dual tone horn, remap.
    Next: Bluetooth

    jammy,

That is what i originally wanted to achive but it's very diffucilt to wire into the Astra due to the type wiring used (can't remember want its called but it allows several different signals to be sent down the same wire ! )

ah you see i wasnt planning on doing anything spectacular, you see the proximity sensor works off of 12 volts, when it senses something it grounds one of the wires, i was just going to wire this into the bonnet switch, i assumed that it would work........ i could be wrong tho
