Question When you bought your new car ?

When you bought your new car, did you know exactly what you wanted?
The reason that I ask is because I've just been to my local Vauxhall dealers to enquire about a new Astra Estate, and the salesperson said that I can take the car for a test drive, but I can't have a Demonstrator for a couple of days. It's probably just me, but can you really decide if you like the car after an hour or so ? The salesperson also tried to sell me a Zafira, but as I've never even been in one, I can't work out how I could make my mind up about it if I couldn't use it for a whole day...school run, shopping, taking the dog out, getting it on and off my 'drive' etc...
Is it just me being stupid, or has anyone out there got an opinion on this ?
    I would be interested...

i think you need yer head seeing to if you buy a brand new car nowadays. Just get an 04 plate (or wait till the 06's come out n get 05). you benefit from the stupid depreciation and still get a good chunk of warranty.

My mate works in a car dealership and one day i got a call from him saying he had an Astra Coupe Turbo just come in and do i want a drive in it.

I had no intention of buying it but had never drove a turbo so took him up on the offer.

By the time i had got to 2nd gear i knew i had to have an Astra GSi and that it would have to be Arden Blue.

Thaks for the thoughts. Jimi has just won his Mobility appeal, so I thought I'd have a look around the dealers and see if there was anything I fancied. VX, Citroen and Renault have all given me a straight 'no' to an extended demo, and I got a maybe from Peugeot. The local Daihatsu dealer hs got a big advert inthe local paper about motability, so I might give them a look today on the way back from the school run.I agree 100% about the new car/depreciation thing, I just can't believe that a dealership can afford to knock back a (potential)£11,000 sale in such an offhand manner.
(Barrie then goes off to his corner and rants about miserable g*ts in the South East and the sooner I get to South Wales the better.....)

I don't want to sound cocky, but if you want to know what I put on the appeal, let me know and I'll do what I can to help.

NOT if you do what we did.
Played 3 dealers off against each other on price and got £3k off list and 0% on the bit we didn't pay.
F3cking bargain for what is a pretty fast and luxury car that handles very well and enjoys burning off much more expensive Audi and VW 2.0TDIs (and the 150bhp mk4 diesel Golf which is heavier) - LOL!

Did an awful lot of research after selling the Golf, and the Astra Estate was a clear winner.

...and pay about 15% APR too!

    Not a wise plan.
