Thinking Of Buying A Mk4 Astra

just joined the site as i'm thinking of buying a mk4 astra and was looking for sum advice........this seemed like a good place to ask!!

looking at a 1.8 sri or sxi 5 door.....and thoughts/advice on these models.

got a rover 25 1.4 at the moment so looking for something slightly bigger/quicker. not too keen on the astra 1.6 as i'm not sure it will be much quicker than my 25 which has the 103ps engine(same as ZR105). so the 1.8 would be my first choice but if u guys can advise???

anything to look out for or models i should avoid???

    cheers

Welcome to the forums mate and good choice of car.

I'm not sure on what possible faults there are with the MK4 astra as i've so far had 2 years trouble free motering on my 2001 coupe but i'm sure someone will be along soon to advise you

Personally I think the 1.8 is a very capable engine, the ones from late 2000/ 2001 had the later 125bhp engine

    Welcome to the site mate...
You wont be disapointed if you bu the astra.
Ive got a 1.8 SXI and I love it.. Cheap on insurance and they are pretty quick for what they are mines 130bhp and thats just with a panel air filter not that quick to some people but practical for my daily driving.

You can see what BHP they both run under the (rolling road results thread.)

DO IT you won't regret in sxi's are great sri's a better consider a 3dr loads of room in the back and very easy accses

the 1.6 is slightly quicker due to the torque i have raced my mates zr105

    Welcome mate.

Nothing wrong with the 1.8 Ecotecs matey, my early mk3 version made 141bhp standard

The SXi and SRi are both nice models, not much in it between them. Personally I would have an SXi as I preffer the mk4 without a spoiler and it has slightly cheaper insurance.

Hi, I had a ZR105 for a while until Rover/MG went bust and the garage took it back off me. Anyway, I think it had one of the best 1.4 engines around and the handling was fun too. Shame the non-ABS brakes were so terrible!
I've got the 1.8 SRi now and love it. Originally chose it because of the price, practicality, 0-60 time, fuel figures and insurance group. On paper it did everything better than a Focus.
I looked at the SXi and although nothing wrong with them I think the SRi has a few useful extras as standard, like the 5 stud axel with slightly bigger discs!
Has got air-con and cruise control too.

    Hope that helps, Shaylo.
