    Question Which head unit ?

My daughter would like to upgrade the stereo in her car, a Ford StreetKA fitted with ford 6000 radio/single Cd player. Which is the better of the following two, and why?

    Kenwood KDC-W7031
    Pioneer DEH-P7700MP

At a glance I'd say the pie-in-ear, but I'm biased!
What do you want from the head unit? What features is she fussed about having?

Quality sound, ease of use and able to MP3 as its cheaper than fitting a multi-changer.

Pioneer is really good for sound quality and easy to use. I've had a couple of kenwoods and found them a lot harder to get into and use the menus. Dunno if they've changed recently cos these were fairly old units!
Pioneer is easy to find your way around.

As for MP3 has she got an ipod? If so get the ipod interface and use it in the car. I know the pioneer unit is compatible, not sure about the kenny unless I look!

Just looked at both the units - there's no contest!

I have a MP3 player pioneer and i've got to say that the way you search through the folders and tracks is ace.

Can't comment on the kenwood as i've never really used one

id always go for a pioneer! i had a 7700mp myself and was mighty impressed with it.
when i used to work in the car audio trade i only ever used to hear bad things about kenwood(in terms of reliability etc) but therefore id never recommend.

    hope this helps

Decided, pioneer 7700 it is. Thanks to all for the help and advice. I have found one locally for £169 although I could get one from the internet for £150 + P+P not much in it really.

Probably a bit late in the day, but kenwood do an Ipod adaptor too. I've got a kenwood KDCW-7027 and I am more than happy with it, but then again I have never used a pioneer head unit, so couldn't compare!
