    cars died

    the car died the other night, was in thrid (in very high revs) ans put the clutch in off the gas and put her into forth, only she didnt go in, but she did grind really loudly.......after this i had nearly no power at all, and the battery light came on, every gear will engage and work but with minimal power, she also is very hard to start and cant hold an idle just dies out within seconds of startin, i just made it home when she died out headin up my driveway

    anyone any ideas on what ive broke, im guessin its something really expensive

    was thinkin the clutch but dont think that would explain the not idleing thing

    Seems very strange. Are you sure you didn't get 2nd instead of 4th as this would explain it.

    it will just about start but wont idle, not too sure what shes runnin on, shes got no power at all

    im really not too sure all i know is that i had third at the red line then grind, cant see me hittin second but i might have, once i heard the grind i but her straight into nutral

    bottom pulley, and/or the bottom pulley bolt. and possibly knocked the timing out.... my friends car did this and did it again a second time... needed new puley bolt, timing belt & the usual stuff..... oh.. and it did this after missing a gear, His ran on all 4 but wouldnt go any faster than 40-50mph....

    but this could be your clutch, especially as you said very high revs. Sorry but i cant be much more help

    The reason it is strange is that you describe a gearbox problem which lead to an engine problem. Now if you had shifted into 2nd, the revs would have attempted around 10,000 rpm which would no doubt cause problems. If this is the case, the sudden engine accelleration could have caused the cam belt to jump a few teeth. You could be lucky though, and there may be no physical damage to the engine. Take the cam belt cover off and check the pulleys align on the marks (see haynes manual).
