    revving high

I own a 1.8 16 valve sport. I had probs with revs staying on when backing off throttle and high revving when starting engine started. Ive cleaned the throttle housing and the idle valve which has cured the revs when backing off the throttle but i still have probs with the high revving when starting the engine. Oh its a mk3 by the way fitted with a closed cone type filter which has been on a while now with no probs.
    Any info would be appreciated

    Hiya,
the engine will idle above normal when you start the car anyway, how high in the rev range are we talking?

About 2000 rpm, only for a few seconds then drops to normal, only recently started to do it.

    pereftly normal.

it is controlled via the ECU and only does it when the ecu determines that the engine temp is too low which will be why your car is doing it now that it is colder outside.

its to get the engine temp up before driving off.

i think it is determined via the coolant temp but not a 100% sure
