Light weight VXR coming our way??

Auto Express are reporting rummours of a light weight VXR coming our way in the near future, details are as follows:

"Designers at vuaxhall have been tripping the light fantastic to boost the sensational Astra VXR, Auto Express can revel. A stripped out version of the three-door hot hatch is currently on the drawing board at the firms Luton head quarters, aiming to reienforce the cars reputation as the most extreme model in its class. Expected to rival the new entry level edtion of Fords Focus ST, the feather-weight Astra will be mechanically identical to the hi-spec car vauxhall already has on sale, although it promises to undercut the price.

Based on the entry-level VXR and costing Ł18995.00, it will offer stiffened Lotus-developed suspension, 18'' wheels and a stripped out interior. The changes are expected to give a 50kg weight saving, thanks to lighter seats and the loss of some standard fit luxuries such as air conditioning.

Special white paint and unique alloys will ensure the car is instantly recongnised. sources tell us it could make its debut at the british motor show in London Next summer."

Well if that is true and not jackanory then I would be very impressed!

Not seen any on the roads around here yet (Lotus often take cars out for a spin nearby) - will keep my eyes peeled.

But then again I saw this on the roads near lotus over 2 years ago and it is yet to debut in the UK.
why do today what you can...... I'll finish this later

mmmm ... 'special white paint' ...... with police on the side !

It would be very interesting to see how much weight can be saved by just stripping out the rear on a standard one....maybe just for the weekend

50kg's doesn't sound much, can't see it making an awful lot of difference tbh - but at least they are doing something a bit more interesting. Guess they are doing this instead of an 888 seeing as they didn't win the BTCC this year?

On another note - I have it on good authority (from tripleeight themselves) that they are currently developing some upgrades for a very special motor.......
