    egr valve cleaning help

    i have taken off the EGR valve, mines all rusted up big time, i want to clean the insides, any idea how u take it apart?
    i take it u get off the plug bit on the top, how do u do that? do i twist it or pull it??? any ideas? my cars a astra coupe yr 2000 1.8, dont know the engine code x18ce stuff...
    any help appreciated. thanks.

    AFAIK it's not designed to come apart and go back together again.

    wot does afaik stand for?
    by the look of it it seemed its not meant to come apart, how do people clean it then? mines just caked in rust by the looks of it.

    theres nothing to clean on it by the looks, i am just going to scrape away any rust away from the bottom where it meets the gasket, and clean that too, and spray the black deposits on the bottom of the egr valve itself...
    if it does any good i will come back n post on here again!

    AFAIK = as far as I know

    Usually it gats caked up woth carbon (from the exhaust) - so a good dousing of carb cleaner and very gentle scraping should see most of it off

    i give a good soak with carb cleaner, and brushed the bits of rust away, think its made a better seal around it for now, reckon the whole EGR valve will need replacing soon tho'... noticed the cam belts nearly up for replacing, cant remember how much that was now when i got it done last, anyone know off top of their heads?

    For me to replace water pump, belt kit with tensioners from autovaux, just come to about £100-£130 if i remember correctly.....
