    Air Filters

Hey guys, question about air filters. I've already got the panel replacement, but was wondering, i hear everyone say ' Don't get induction kits as the 2.2 engine gets way too hot etc etc'. I want to know how come you see skyline's and supra's and such with a cone filters? Fiar enough they may have heat shields and bigger intakes but surely they will have the same heat prob if not worst??

Just wanted to clear things up

You might be right but the vxl ecu`s dont like induction kits! You have a 2.2 yes? Well i just fitted a Courtenay filter (which is a piper cross), deristricted the air box and fitted the vectra air feed to my 2.2 coupe!! It does feel a lot better pulls better in the lower reves and feels better in the higher revs and the noise.... well it surprised me 3000 RPM+ oh yes!!! well worth the cheap mod and it can give a good BHP increase too (prob about +5BHP)

Oh and look under the bonnet... still looks factory

Is this what you got? Or a cone? sorry, it's late

Courtenay Sport High Flow Panel Filter

Our high flow, high efficiency air filters use a special foam which gives better airflow than even the most popular cotton gauze aftermarket filters. Our filters offer the very highest level of dirt retention and protection and you can clean them and reuse them just like most other performance filters and they come branded with the Courtenay Sport Logo. Supplied with filter oil for oiling prior to first use and subsequent re-oiling.

Yes that the performance panel filter that goes into a airbox (preferably de-restricted).

When you get to high output engines....then the cone filters (BMC CDA etc) can be better (most standard vxl applications are better off with de-restric/panel filter)....but I assure you they all have proper heat shields and insulation to stop hot air getting in from the engine.....

BMC's aren't bad for £160... seems hard trying to justify the £250 price tag on an Apollo or Viper

You can indeed. Your engine will get a reasonable benefit from the mod too. Details are in the Tech section's How-tos.
