Thumbs Up Great Service - Some Problems Though

Just had a minor service which only came to £85 for the service itself, although they did bring up some other points which are a bit more expensive!!

    These include:-

Both Drive Shaft Oil Seals Leaking and Gearbox Drain Plate - £250
Knock From Steering - No price quoted, was maybe thinking a bent driveshaft? might be whats caused the leak
May Need Throttle Body Mod Due to Poor Start - £102

It also needs new tyres but i already knew that, now im not sure if its worth spending £700 on a car which itself is only worth around £4000. Just wondering are these common things of cars 6 years old or should I maybe have them done.

Really dont want too as im a student and it would cut badly into my finances, especially at a time when i was trying to save up. Really dont wanna have to sell the car either.

I don't know what it'd be on a Astra but on my Rover 414se a new drive shaft cost me £85 inc seals. Plus you'll need some gear box oil and about 2-3hours worth of patients in my case coz the car was that old it had welded itself into the hub .

You should get another 6 years at least out of a Mk4, so it's worth fixing that kind of stuff when it happens.

Of course, getting a local independant mechanic to fix that sort of stuff is far cheaper than the dealer. Eveywhere has a mechanic/garage that specialises in Vauxhalls, or has someone who used to work for a Vauxhall dealership.
