    Golf VR6

Been looking at these for a while now just wondered what peoples views on them are as the more i see them the more i want one.

Average price for a decent one seems to be about £5k but is it worth it?

and are the engines all they are cracked up to be as there are alot of high milage ones out there?

    cheers

I had one for a while, while ive never been the biggest mk3 golf fan it was worth it for the engine alone. They pull really well and make a lovely noise and can handle big miles if serviced regularly. I paid £1700 for mine but its needed a few things done.

They really want a decent suspension set up as they handle like a boat as std.

With the VR6 i wouldnt worry about mileage - service history is the important part. Also check for ABS problems and that the sunroof works - common faults.

Hi mate i've got a P reg VR6, it lightened my wallet by £3k but it's worth every penny as it's been well looked after and completely standard.
Just use your common sense, look out for tatty looking ones, as like everything if it looks tatty there's a good chance it hasn't been looked after. The engine will last for yonks there's a common saying that after 100k the engine has only just been run in, one thing to listen out for is the timing chains/guides, if they're on the way out you'll hear a rattling slapping noise coming from the engine, if you hear that walk away as depending where you take it you're looking at £500-£1000 to replace the offending parts (8 hour, gearbox out job)
Other than that they are a cracking car, like what's been said the engine makes the car, the sound and effortless torque makes for a really good drive.
Test drive one and just wait till you reach 3000rpm

And finally have a look on www.VR6OC.com you'll hear loads of praise for them there (funny that) and it's also a good place to find out the little niggles they sometimes develop.
