Astra G - adding an amp to the stock stereo

    Hi,

I own a 99 Astra G 2.0 SRi and it is currently fitted with the stock crap plastic head unit (rebadged blaupunkts?) and also a 6 CD Blaupunkt changer in the glove box.

Is it possible to connect an amp to these headunits or am I asking for too much from such a lowbie headunit?

I want to keep the stock setup with the steering wheel controls and the cool LCD but if I can't connect the amp up what headunit will work with the factory buttons/LCD using an adaptor cable?

    Cheers,

    FZ

There are a few head units which will work with the stearing wheel controls, have a look in the ICE section of the site.

Yeah - U can. U need to take an output (rear output for example) and connect those wires to the High Level input on an amp.. (most amps have em) and work it from there, I say Rear output, because i assume its for a sub?
No point in using rear speakers if ye thinkin of using a sub, If soundstage is meant to be at the front., no point in having mid and hi-ranges in the back where they will be lost.

the best way to fit an amp with the factory radio is to use a 'speaker to rca' converter this is connected to the speaker wires at the back of the radio then rca leads can be plugged straight into this tand the amp. the autoleads part number is 'pc1-610' and retails at £15. 1 will convert 1 pair of speakers.

Don't expect fantastic quality sound from this direction though. The best way is to get a new headunit that has pre-outs already.

    Totally agree with that^^^^^^^^

If your after just filling out a little bit of bass then go for it, if you actually want a decent system and decent sub(s) then replace the HU.
