What to do what to do

This is going to sound strange and I still cannot believe it now myself

Couple of weeks ago an email was sent round by another internal Helpdesk looking for staff. I decided to have a chat with the lady in charge to see what the job involved, as I was interested in moving on, as I really hate where I am now.

Today, I had the opportunity to visit the other Helpdesk for the day to see them in operation. Just before I left, the lady in charge took me into another room and asked what I thought of their helpdesk and I said yeh, I am really tempted to apply for the job. I asked if I did apply for it, what are my chances of getting it? she said she will offer me a position and she did, there and then, no interview or anything

I have now been asked to think about it over the next couple of days and get back to her soon. I am really tempted as the money will be better and the job is more hands on than what I am doing now. However, its the trek. Each day, I will be using the M3 everyday and depending on which shift im on, the journey can take from an hour to get there and back or up to two hours plus there and back depending on traffic each day.

    Shall I take the job

Didn't know you had an M3 now mate, well using thats no bad thing

I suppose you need to weigh up the extra money V's the extrs cost of commuting the extra distance, if they equal each other out then its not one of the best points.

Still job security is certainly something to look for these days, and maybe chance of progression if you're after promotion

I travelled up to Manchester Airport Al for 8 years - that was about 2 hours travelling each day. Have to say that it became part of the working day but I got the 888 and felt guilty about putting miles on her

I think you have a gut feeling about what to do - go with your instinct - that's what I did and I ended up on the other side of the country. You met the lady so deep down you've done something already about your current situation.

agree with gsilady - go with your gut instinct - I drive an hour to work everyday and notch up around 2k a month just to work and back, but I love my job so much that I wouldnt change it for the world. Job satisfaction for the right money and stability is hard to come be these days, so I suggest you think long and hard, and as legoman said, thoroughly weigh up the pros and cons before making a solid commitment

    Feltham mate.

GSiLady has made good point. If I was not interested, guess i would not have made the first move. But, like you guys advised, to weigh up both the pros and cons first

I wouldn't call feltham London and the locals aren't that nice

Anyway my mate recently took a new job out of the London area where he is traveling 60 miles a day. He also took a 5k pay cut for it in the hopes of learning new skills which he's getting. He says it's the traveling thats crippling him in the pocket so really look into them costs
